Terraformation Series II
Atmospheric color and altered vessel forms evoke Badlands, coastlines, erosion, and changing skies.

Contextual Statement
Material, place, and transformation
Terraformation Series II extends Martie’s investigation of place beyond site-specific Bruneian clay toward a broader response to geophysical landscapes and seascapes. The Badlands of South Dakota, East and West Coast shorelines, eroded cliffs, layered rock, fossil-bearing strata, storms, sunsets, and tidal ecosystems become visual catalysts. Porcelain and stoneware are thrown and altered intuitively so that ridges, compressed planes, bowls, bottles, and irregular silhouettes can suggest eroded terrain. Atmospheric glazes, glass, lusters, and mineral-like surfaces introduce changing bands of color. Martie approaches each piece experimentally, allowing the kiln to collaborate in forming surfaces that feel discovered rather than fully prescribed.
