Arched Earth Cradles
Arches become bridges between shelter and passage, isolation and renewed connection.

Contextual Statement
Material, place, and transformation
Created between 2019 and 2022, Arched Earth Cradles transforms the vessel into a metaphorical landscape where earth, architecture, shelter, and human connection converge. Central to each work is a substantial arch that rises above, spans, or embraces the vessel. More than a handle, the arch functions as a symbolic bridge—a passage between separated spaces and a visual expression of the desire to reconnect during the isolation and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. The word “cradle” adds the idea of sanctuary: a protected place of beginnings, nurturing, and emergence. Shadowed interiors evoke caves, geodes, grottoes, or wells, sometimes revealing unexpected encrustations and accumulations. Ridges, fissures, crackled glazes, layered bands, and clustered materials recall geological processes such as erosion, sedimentation, mineral deposition, and weathering. Together, the works consider resilience—the ability to shelter what is vulnerable without turning protection into permanent confinement.
